This is from Matilda::. by Chris Visions
Looking back on 2013, this piece was my second proudest milestone (here’s my first). ’This is for Matilda’ was a fertile testing ground for ideas and technique, and things started to really click between the two here for me. Recently I’ve been giving my sketchbook more love, after observing a dip in my production outside of jobs. I committed to doing daily sketches, what I’ve been referring to as #lunchtimeloosies. The object was to simply make marks, observe, and fall in love with ink even more on my lunch break. It’s been a great way for me to see shapes and composition differently. I also trusted my gut more, and made more expressive decisions. As a result, the consistent practice led to this piece, the first in this direction. I look forward to exploring and developing this new body of work in 2014.
I finished this piece right before I jumped on my current comic project with BOOM! studios. Im thankful for insight and energy that came from it, and am enjoying bringing those same elements to my sequential work. Big thanks to FuckYeahIllustrativeArt.com for the love they’ve shown over the past couple years, and everyone who took time out to leave a comment, like or reblog my work. The support means the world to me, and I can’t wait to share more of my work to add to the conversation. Everyone be safe, be brave, be blessed, be loved and love back this New Year. This one’s gonna be good! ;)
